AGE DIVISIONS
- Petite: 5 years old and under — Spark (Novice) level only
- Mini: 6–8 years old
- Junior: 9–11 years old
- Teen: 12–14 years old
- Senior: 15–19 years old
- Adult: 20 years old and above*
*Any routine with a performer 20 years or older must compete in the Adult age division with the exception of 12 & Over Super Lines.
SUPER LINE AGE DIVISIONS:
*11 & Under: No Adult dancer may compete in an 11 & Under Super Line
*12 & Over: May include Adult (age 20 and over) dancers
The age division for all routines is determined by the average age of the performers as of January 1, 2027, the start of the 2027 season. This includes solos. Do not round up. Performers maintain their regional age category at Nationals; however, you must recalculate the average age for Nationals if any dancers in a routine change.
If any dancer 20 years of age or older compete in a routine, regardless of the average age, the routine must compete in the Adult age division – with the exception of 12 & Over Super Lines. See more information on 12 & Over Super Lines below.
For Duet/Trios, Groups, and Lines, dancers’ ages will be averaged and the decimal dropped to determine the age division.
All routines competing within the Petite age division (5 & under) will default to the Spark (Novice) level of competition.
Productions will be divided into two age divisions: 11 & under and 12 & over and continue to be divided by levels. Must include 15+ dancers.
BUMP RULE:
The oldest dancer in a routine can only compete one age division lower than their actual age for any small group, large group or line.
*Super Lines are an average age and do not fall into this category.
*Adult age dancers are not permitted to compete in the 11 & Under Super Line Category.
*Any routine (not including Super Lines) with a performer 20 years or older will automatically fall into the Adult age division.
EXAMPLE: If a group includes a dancer age 16 (Senior) and the average age is 11 (Junior), the group will compete one level below Senior — age 12 (Teen).
Super Line removes the rules for Adult Age Division/Levels/Bump Rule, but is for routines in other performance genres outside of Production. Super Line performances must contain at least 20 dancers incorporating any style dance or combination of dance styles. There are two age divisions in Super Line: 11 & Under / 12 & Over. All Super Lines will compete at the Ignite (Elite) level.
COMPETITIVE LEVEL PLACEMENT
Each studio is responsible for placing their dancers in the level they feel is most appropriate, in accordance with the guidelines outlined below. Redline reserves the right to advance any entry to a higher level based on a majority decision of the adjudication panel. Such adjustments will be made at the sole discretion of Redline and may occur without prior notification.
Read descriptions carefully and be fair and honest with dancer placement. Consider both the dancer’s skill level and the difficulty of the choreography; a dancer who technically qualifies for Spark (Novice) may still warrant a higher placement.
Routines that are under-placed may be elevated by our judges. All decisions are final.
Routines with the same or similar dancers that have competed in any prior award segments will not be affected by the move. Future routines with the same or similar dancers will be handled on a case-by-case basis. If the higher division hasn’t competed yet, the routine’s score will be considered in the overalls. If the higher division award ceremony has already taken place, the routine that is bumped will be adjudicated only.
Petite age division (dances averaging ages 5 and under) routines are not divided into levels. All Petite routines compete in Spark (Novice) level.
- Solos: Soloists must perform all solos within their assigned competitive level.
- Duet/Trio: Division is determined by the highest-level dancer.
- Groups: The competitive level of a group routine is determined by the level of each dancer in that routine. The routine defaults to the majority level; ties default to the higher level. Studios may bump a group up voluntarily; no routine may be bumped down.
NOTE: If attending multiple events in the same season, soloists must compete in the same competitive class at all events
SPARK (NOVICE LEVEL)
Where your fire begins. The spark that starts it all — perfect for dancers beginning their competitive journey.
Recreational dancers with little or no competition experience; typically, less than 3 hours/ week. Dancers in Spark may not compete in Ignite (Elite) (except Productions or Super Lines). Spark dancers may compete in Momentum (Intermediate) as appropriate. Maximum 7 routines per Spark dancer; dancers in 8+ routines must be placed in Momentum (Intermediate).
MOMENTUM (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL)
Keep the energy moving forward. Momentum represents dancers building confidence, skill, and consistency — gaining speed and improving technique.
Dancers with limited competition experience; typically, 3–5 hours/week. Maximum 11 routines in Momentum; dancers in 12+ routines must be placed in Ignite (Elite).
IGNITE (ELITE LEVEL)
Fuel the stage. For dancers who set the pace and elevate the standard — refined, bold, and powerful.
Dancers with significant competition experience, typically training 5+ hours per week.
OVERDRIVE (ADULT LEVEL)
Full power, no limits. Adult level dancers hit the stage at full power, breaking the limits and reminding everyone that love for dance never slows down.
This level is designed for routines that include any dancer age 20 or older, regardless of average age or skill level. Adult dancers bring a unique energy and passion to the stage, and Overdrive honors that by providing a space for their performances to shine.
SPOTLIGHT LEVEL (Physical, Mental, or Developmental Differences)
Every dancer deserves the spotlight. This level creates space to highlight dancers with physical, mental, or developmental differences — focusing on shining bright and lighting up the stage.
For routines including dancers with exceptional mental and/or physical abilities or dancers with special needs.
DISCOUNT: 50% off registration for this category.
LEVEL RECAP
- Spark (Novice): For dancers just starting their competitive journey.
- Momentum (Intermediate): Building energy, confidence, and skill.
- Ignite (Elite): Refined technique and bold artistry.
- Overdrive (Adult): For routines including dancers age 20+.
- Spotlight (Persons of Disability): Celebrating courage, perseverance, and joy through dance.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Any Duet/Trio will dance in the level of the highest-leveled dancer.
- Productions and Super Lines can contain dancers in any level.
- Once the program is printed, routines may no longer change levels unless due to a technical error.
- Levels are intended to group dancers by experience/training, not to under-place for competitive advantage.

EXTENDED TIME
Available for an additional $4.00 per dancer.
- Duet/Trio & Small Group: +1 minute
- Large Group & Line: +2 minutes
- Production: +4 minutes
Routines must be pre-registered for extended time. If your routine goes over the time guidelines, you must note this upon registration and pay the small extended time fee. You will not be able to upload music if its length exceeds the time limit and Extended Time is not selected.

JUDGING & CRITIQUES
Judges will evaluate routines based on technique, showmanship, choreography, execution, and overall impression. Each judge will score up to 100 points, and the combined total of the three judges will determine the final ranking.
Redline does not support multiple placements for the same ranking. We do not believe in a “7- way tie for 5th place.” In the event of a tie, placements will be determined and awarded as distinct rankings.
All ties will be broken in the following order:
- Highest Technical score
- Highest Showmanship score
- Judges’ decision
Redline offers a Critique Satisfaction Guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied with a critique, we will have a Head Adjudicator re-critique your performance.
Video critiques and score summaries will be available through your online studio account following the event. In the rare event of technical issues resulting in the loss of video critiques, Redline will not be held liable; however, our team will make every reasonable effort to provide an equitable resolution.
COMPETITION SCHEDULES
Redline does not have a general schedule format. Each schedule is created based on the registrations for that city after the registration deadline, and is based on registration totals, venue availability, and studio needs — allowing us to best accommodate each studio and dancer, utilizing competition time in an efficient manner.
SCHEDULE REQUESTS: Studio directors must email info@redlinedance.com with the city and “Schedule Request” in the subject line (e.g., “Detroit — Schedule Request”). We do not accept schedule requests for solo routines and cannot guarantee any requests, but we will accommodate whenever possible.
Your to-the-minute schedule will be emailed to the studio account email address on file. Please be ready to perform at least 1 hour prior to your performance time. We run in program order throughout the competition, with limited exceptions (e.g., nosebleeds, vomiting, legitimate costume change issues of fewer than 3 routines). Redline reserves the right to modify the schedule to remain on time. Wrongful holding of numbers may result in disqualification or point reduction.
REMINDER: Except for emergencies (illness, costume malfunction, etc.), all routines must perform in program order.
PROPS
Redline welcomes the use of props. Transportation, set-up, and tear-down are the sole responsibility of the studio.
PROHIBITED PROPS:
- Fire, weapons, knives, live animals, helium balloons
- Glitter, liquids, gels, confetti, paint, sand, aerosol powders, fog machines, or any substance that damages or leaves residue on the stage floor.
Studios must immediately restore the stage to pre-performance condition following their routine.
By registering, studios and dancers acknowledge that dancing with or on props involves risk and release Redline Dance Competition from any liability related to damage or injury. Redline is not responsible or liable for damage to props.
STUDIO CHECK-IN
Studio directors (or designees) should check in 30 minutes prior to the start of the event or at least one hour prior to their first scheduled routine (with the Show Director at the podium near the boutique before the event, or at the boutique during the event).
ROUTINE CHECK-IN
Routines are expected to perform in order. Routines performing outside listed order may not receive media (photo/video/critique). Out-of-order performances must be approved by the Show Director and must remain within the awards session for which they are scheduled; otherwise, the routine may perform for adjudication only. Be prepared to perform up to one hour earlier than scheduled.
DRESSING ROOMS
Same-gender parents and teachers only in dressing rooms. Family dressing space is available upon request. Redline does not assign dressing space. All dancers, teachers, and family are expected to be courteous and respectful. See your Stage Manager or Director at the event for details.
BACKSTAGE POLICY
Only teachers and performers are permitted backstage. Parents and dancers not performing should watch from the audience.
RE-PERFORMANCE OF ROUTINES
Except for technical difficulties on the part of Redline or for costume malfunctions, re-performance is for adjudication only. If a dancer re-performs for other reasons, they will receive their adjudicated placement but will not be eligible for high scores.
VENUE INFORMATION
ADMISSION: General admission. No saving seats.
TEACHER ROW: Provided at the front of the auditorium for Studio Directors and Teachers only.
FACILITY RESPECT POLICY: All dressing rooms, performance spaces, and audience areas must be left clean. Facility rules must be adhered to at all times. Redline may discard prohibited items.

JUDGES:
Redline Dance judges are comprised of championship caliber studio directors, professional dance instructors, and performing dance professionals. Our judges are well trained in multiple genres of dance and are sensitive to the various skills represented by the dancers’ differing ages and levels. This mixture of age, breadth of dance experience, and extensive background in performing arts contributes to the diverse range of feedback our judges offer competitors. Every effort is made to provide feedback in five main areas: Technique, Choreography, Showmanship, Execution, and Overall Impression. All decisions made by our highly qualified and competent judging panel are final, and all judging methods used will be at the sole discretion of Redline Dance Competition.
Ties for first place are broken by: (1) highest Technique, (2) highest Showmanship, (3) judges’ decision.
ADJUDICATED AWARD DISTRIBUTION

If a tie occurs, more than two dancers per studio age group may be selected.
Members are recognized as leaders within the Redline community — dancers who embody innovation, artistry, and drive. Together, they’ll collaborate in a one-of-a-kind performance experience at Nationals.
Instructions and program details are printed on the back of the onstage invitations.

ELIGIBILITY:
Eligibility begins with five group routines. From there, each studio’s five highest-scoring group performances are averaged and ranked against all other qualifying studios. When the competition concludes, the top five studio averages rise to the line — earning cash awards presented on stage to the studio directors during the final group awards ceremony.
CASH AWARDS:
- 5th Highest Studio Average — $100
- 4th Highest Studio Average — $200
- 3rd Highest Studio Average — $300

REDLINE LEADERBOARD
Celebrating the season’s top-performing studios.
